Algarve
Coastal bases, relaxed beach time and varied towns
The Algarve is a region rather than a single resort. Lagos, Faro and Tavira offer different coast and town experiences, and the journey between them can dominate an overambitious itinerary. Choose a base around beach access, evening meals and transfer requirements, then add a small number of outings.
Lisbon
Hillside neighbourhoods, viewpoints and riverfront exploring
Lisbon is a city of slopes, neighbourhood contrasts and a broad riverfront. A comfortable itinerary groups hillside walks together and balances them with easier stretches by the water. Four days gives room for the old quarters and Belém without making every day a long climb or a crowded tram journey.
Porto
River views, historic streets and food-led short breaks
Porto is a compact-looking city with real slopes between its upper streets and the Douro. A good break combines riverside views, historic neighbourhoods and time for meals without repeatedly climbing the same routes. Choose your accommodation around the journeys you expect to make on both sides of the river.
Choose the kind of holiday you want
Compare the actual journeys between your chosen Portugal destinations before booking. A short city visit and a regional holiday need different transport plans. Keep transfer days light and check accommodation access directly.
| Destination | The feel | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Lisbon | Hillside streets and riverfront sights | Account for steep walking routes |
| Porto | River views and historic quarters | Choose your side of the river |
| Algarve | Beaches and coastal towns | Check beach access and transfers |
Choose a season, then a region
Choose the destination and trip style before choosing dates for Portugal. Climate varies by region; compare the individual destination profiles rather than relying on one national weather average. Check current venue and transport arrangements separately.
Each destination guide has its own monthly climate table. A single country-wide average would hide the differences that matter to your trip.
